We support children as they prepare for the 11 plus, SATs and the transition to secondary school. Here’s why families trust Owl Teaching . . .
With classroom experience since 2016, an Enhanced DBS check and a 20-year career in journalism, Gurby Griffiths helps children build strong English comprehension and writing skills through structured teaching.
To ensure progression, each learner receives focused, individual support. Staying with the same group and tutor throughout the year helps build confidence, consistency and a supportive atmosphere.
Each week, your child works from teacher-created resources designed to develop skills and strategies in reading, writing, comprehension and SPaG.
Lessons last 25 minutes — enough to make real progress, yet short enough to keep children focused. Children learn best in concentrated bursts.
Homework is kept under 20 minutes per week. We believe children should have time to explore, play and pursue interests outside the classroom.
I’m Gurby, a tutor with classroom experience helping children build confidence and succeed in English. I founded Owl Teaching after seeing my own child struggle with reading comprehension and writing. Through 12 weeks of focused, short lessons, she gained confidence, improved her skills, reached greater depth and secured a place at her chosen grammar school.
Before launching Owl Teaching, I had already helped many children strengthen their English skills and perform at their best in school assessments.
Here are three things to know about me:
I am passionate about helping children gain confidence and enjoy learning.
I have classroom experience since 2016 and hold an Enhanced DBS check.
I bring 20 years of journalism experience, writing for and sub-editing regional and national newspapers.
As a parent who has been through the 11+ process myself, I understand how daunting exam preparation can feel. My child’s challenges inspired me to create lessons that build skills, confidence and enjoyment without overwhelming children or their families.
At Owl Teaching, I want you and your child to feel supported every step of the way. We’re here to help your child develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed academically and feel proud of their progress.
