Our story
Our story
I’m Gurby, a tutor with classroom experience helping children build confidence and succeed in English. I founded Owl Teaching after seeing my own child struggle with reading comprehension and writing. Through 12 weeks of focused, short lessons, she gained confidence, improved her skills, reached greater depth and secured a place at her chosen grammar school.
Before launching Owl Teaching, I had already helped many children strengthen their English skills and perform at their best in school assessments.
Here are three things to know about me:

I bring 20 years of journalism experience, writing for and sub-editing regional and national newspapers.
As a parent who has been through the 11+ process myself, I understand how daunting exam preparation can feel. My child’s challenges inspired me to create lessons that build skills, confidence and enjoyment without overwhelming children or their families.
At Owl Teaching, I want you and your child to feel supported every step of the way. We’re here to help your child develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed academically and feel proud of their progress.
